To all of you heavy pop fans (yes Nu-Metal is not metal but is in fact pop), old -school metal? We don't just listen to 80s metal, metal in all of its forms is still going strong and it will continue to live, for as log as there are people with instrumental skill, metal will never die!

Through the years there have been many things that have tried to kill heavy metal some of these include, glam, hair metal, grunge and more recently "nu-metal". What's so metal about nu-metal? Nothing at all! You know what? We have always beaten these foes, look at nu-metal, it is dieing/dead!

Joey Jordinson a good drummer? I don't like him I find him repetitive and boring, good drummers are, Mike Protnoy, Hellhammer, Trym, Thomas Stauch, Buddy Rich(yes I know he's jazz, but he kicks arse), the drummer from Decapitated(forget his name) and there are many other drummers who are better than the poser Joey Jordinson.

I'm no fan of nu-metal. I do like a few songs by a few of the bands (Linkin Park has some excellent stuff). Then again, I don't consider them metal in any sense of the word. The thing that I'm sick of is how some metallers claim that to be a true metal fan, you must eat, breathe, sleep, live and die metal. All right, I do that. But to say that I'm not allowed to listen to any other genre and still call myself a metalhead? That's a line. My top favorite metal bands are Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Iron Maiden, Immortal, Burzum and Evergrey. My top favorite bands period are Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Iron Maiden, Vertical Horizon, Silverchair and Our Lady Peace.

Uh, yeah, pretty much no relevance to the site, but it's something that gets to me.

Next thing. Now don't get me wrong, the guide is hilarious. But some of the comments I saw at the bottom made me go "... Fuck, it hurts to be associated with those people." Yeah, the site is poking fun at Slipknot and the like, but how much more "_______ are cocksuckers" must we endure? It's the same thing mallcorers do, it's on the list. Turnabout may be fair play, but come on. Why badmouth a band for no reason?

So yeah, that's my opinion... I've got a feeling I'm gonna be flamebombed after this. Thanks again for the laughs.

Adrian Zaremba <heeroyuy@wp.pl> - 6 Nov'04: Well, first off although I do find your guide pretty funny I hope I think you're a little close-minded about your views on music. I mean I love all genres of music not just metal, which leads me to feel that there is qualities in each genre that can be appreciated. I mean it's fun to poke at anything I mean i could make fun of a band I like all day if I wanted to, no one's perfect. I can think of plenty of jokes about Korn and Metallica right of the top of my head. To say, however, that nu-metal does not have any redeeming qualities is hugely igorant. I mean I love Metallica and I can't get enough of them, however, Linkin Park is by far a talented group of muscians. Not only can they make music that really lyrically touches a lot of teens, but they can also produce a solid original sound that has some very original chords and combinations of instruments, I mean not only a turn-table and mc but also a piano.

They're songs have a unique sound that is shaped in a intelligent and complicated way. Every band has some good points. You may think I have a bias towards nu-metal, however, I try to look at everything as objectively as possible to the point of where even though Linkin Park if my favorite band I know that old metal started it all and those musicians (as well as some nu ones) are geniueses. As I've previously stated I love all types of music, which includes not only Metal but Hard Rock, Techno, Dance, Rap, Pop, and even the oh so despised country. I think too many of you old metal and some nu-metal fans are too subjective and you need to spread your musical intrests a little farther. I mean there's so much music in the world, don't center yourself on just one.

There really is good in all types of music. Last pet pieve I have is that most of the nu-metal bands that are refrenced are huge ones that
are always in the mainstream. There are plenty of good metal bands that are almost never aired and have a great unique sound that hardly fit any of your "nu-metal stereotypes," which include Spineshank, Ill Nino, 40 Below Summer, and Skrape. -- Adrian Zaremba

Heh, wow do you have a lot to hear...whoever you are. First of all, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard from a band, putting numbers between their names...jesus. Joey "1" Jordison....why can't it just be Joey Jordison?? its not like he's special in any way...oh wait...I forgot, he wears a mask that he copied from something else...i'll letcha guess what is is, lol. Ok anyways, back to the drumming thing. Joey from Slipknot is a good drummer...but he's DEFINATELY not the best my friend, lol, I guess you just follow along with MTV huh? Most people who have posted anti nu metal articles ALL suffer one MAJOR fallacy in their logical thinking. - Era. - I am accused of "not knowing" all sorts of these bands which, I dont know of. But the fallacy is, they expect our generation to know all of these bands that have fallen from view. Tell me, how is it fair to expect that?

They always say "Oh the teeney boppers love the Nu Metal" You know why? It hasnt been AROUND long enough for us to be 30 or 40. Its a simple math problem. How about I ask these metalheads to list off alot of obscure Disco bands which never made it big? The ones that started the chain leading to disco? That would be complete idiocy as that was before their time, thusly they have no reason to be expected to know them.

Another weak arguement is that Nu Metals "shelf life is overdue". Now please tell me, what type of music has lasted mainstream for more than a decade or a decade and a 1/2. Your metal is dead in the mainstream eyes. Its shelf life long expired. Nu Metal will die to, NO music will go on mainstream forever.

Also, to do some friendly ripping on "old" metal, you metalheads make such a raucus about "No Solos". I almost NEVER hear a musical solo, its just "C form, in D flat, to A form in C flat switch from Pentatonic to major and back again." Most solos ruin the songs because the dont flow AT ALL. Now if they have a good solo, in the right key, with TIMING and not just a flow of notes it sounds awesome. IE. Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne ect. (I like the one in No More Tears)

I have read your guide about nu-metal stuff, and i think that you have been unfair at some accounts. First of all, I wouldn't even call Linkin Park nu metal. They're just alt-rock. Nothing new about them. Second, I do believe Slipknot is shit, but Corey Taylor is a wasted talent (he's too good for slipknot) ad so is Joey Jordison, whom you have underestimated. The other 7 people in the band are just bystanders, with no ability. Third, Korn are not ripoffs. They are original, they have an unique sound. Yeah, they didn't invent the 7string, and they didn't revitalize metal. But they don'tt claim to be metal. Also, not every 7-string user is shit. Petrucci (who will beat the hell out of any guitarist you could mention) currently uses a 7-string, and Satriani used to use one too, and he is just awesome. Last, Ryan from Mudvayne kicks ass. See him live. These were the facts.
My personal opinion is that "tr00 metal headz" who just can't get on with the flow of nu (NEW) metal, just classify anything they don't like as nu-metal. You like old-sepultura? (I do) Sorry to say, they are dead. Move on. You like Judas priest? (I don't) they don'T exist anymore. MOVE ON! When you lose a friend, you grieve for a while, then accept the loss and move on. Why can't you act the same way with music? The world is becoming a pile of shit, and cultural degeneration is a fact. Movies are getting unoriginal. So is the new music. But you live in the same world with them, accept it and move on, for whatever being you worship's sake!
Also, bands need money to survive. It's survival instinct when they use publicity to be rich. Don'T blame them. If you had the same opportunity, I'm sure you would use it.

The drummer from Vital Remains is far superior then the whole band of slipknot, They are from RI, and I have seen them this past year and when he plays double bass its 587585340507 times faster then I have ever heard a person play. He also could out play any of the members of slipknot on guitar seeing that’s the original instrument he use to play and only took up drums to start a band.

Now with all this, I'm assuming that Nu Metal refers to the talentless crap of bands like Slipknot, Linkin Park, etc., because new music is produced every day, and that doesn't necessarily make it bad. I am a fan of old music and new music alike. I like all genres of music except for nu metal. well i dont like that 80s glam shit either. but some 80s metal is good like maiden, priest, slayer. being a fan of old music doesnt make you some old 45-55 yr old loser. IM FOURTEEN, for fucks sake. I love old metal. Once again, i think what the new record labels, MTV, etc, are trying to tell all these nu metal kids is that old isn't cool, new is cool. but what is cool? who can tell you what cool is? what these corporations are trying to tell these kids is that "we can tell you what's cool". so you see, nu metal is just pop in disguise, like it or not. "Nu" Metal gets rehashed very badly, but i personally think it serves its place. If metal bands were still singing about mechanix and how evil has no boundires, how seriously would we take it. It was cool for back then but if people were still doing it in 1999 im pretty sure majorty of music fans in general would say seven words "what the fuck is this dumb shit?". Metal still needed to be taken sersiouly, it still had to concern parents , it still had to have enough edge to be able to put the middle of the finger to, and it makes sence that it turned out the way it did. You oviously cant compare REAL new metal bands like opeth dimmu bogir (what ever real new metal may be in you opinion) to Korn or Spineshank, it dosent logically make sence. There about complety different things but it all has the want to heavy, and that in my opinion makes it all metal.

If you are an anti-government type, then get out an do something about it! Do you honestly think that by listening to the music you are doing anything? You can walk around with all types of anti-American slogans and yet it does nothing unless you get involved with others (not just to trash your local government building, which will do nothing more than cause more resentment of your views) who will begin a move to do something about it. Music is for entertainment. It should be no other source, aside from a vent at times. Because you don't like Good Charolette doesn't mean anything. Also because they have no musical talent means nothing either. People like them because they like the sound. Fuck lyrics. Some songs are great with lyrics, keeps it all flowing. Otherwise most songs would be more about the sound. Mind you, because they have no musical talent means nothing of how others will hear their music. Why do you think people listen to bands such as Staind? Because they just like how it flows. I listen to every genre of music. I encourage others to as well. If you are depressed, listen to music that makes you feel better or music that is related to your mood. So what if people like Nu-Metal? So what if the bands have no talent? So what if you dislike it? Quite frankly, I don't give a shit. I'll go back to listening to Deicide, then Eminem, then Journey, and last I'll jump to Joan Jett.
